Practical Wing Chun Australia

Si Hing – Ricky

I was born in 1990 and spent the first 17 years in Hong Kong until I decided to expand my horizons and finish my Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering in Australia. At the beginning of 2012, my best friend, who happens to share the exact same birthday as me, invited me along to join a fitness training group, where I met Sifu Jack Leung for the first time.

In this group, I not only trained physical conditioning that gave me better health, fitness and strength but also the basic principles of Muay Thai and boxing. Through this training I realised that these systems are based heavily on the physical condition and attributes of a person, especially around ones, height, weight and reach in which I wasn’t terribly gifted in.

I then turned to Practical Wing Chun, a close-quarter combat system, which gave me the confidence to deal with real life situations. This style of Wing Chun is technique-oriented and most importantly, specifically designed to defeat and control opponents who are taller, heavy and have greater reach than you.

After training Practical Wing Chun, I not only learnt useful techniques for self-defence but also gained further confidence, discipline, leadership, and a positive change in perspective towards myself and others.
